People and their pooches are always assured of a good time when they visit Carmel-by-the-Sea, perhaps the most pet-friendly place in this country. With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, now there’s a special reason to escape to this pooch paradise: Cypress Inn Puppy Love. This February, pet pampering hits a high note at Hollywood ingénue and animal advocate Doris Day’s legendary Cypress Inn. Carmel’s iconic 1929 landmark will roll out the red carpet with a month-long Puppy Love package ripe for romancing Rover or kissing up to King.
Top treats for February include Tricks for an upgrade upon arrival (based on availability), complimentary Cypress Inn logoed collar tag and $20 credit toward Yappy Hour (martinis and muttinis) or Terry’s Lounge + Restaurant. A deal any dog would lap up, the Puppy Love package is available February 1 – 28, 2015, starting at $199.00/double occupancy, including daily breakfast.
Pioneer in pet friendly
Ahead of the curve, Cypress Inn was one of California’s first hotel properties to welcome pets in the mid-1980s and has since seen everything from parrots to pot bellied pigs check in for an adventure by the sea. Standard operating procedure includes concierges carrying grain-free all-natural dog treats and all of the Inn’s 44 crisp, contemporary guestrooms appointed with dog bowls, plush dog beds and in-room fireplaces.
Long known as one of the most pet-friendly cities in the U.S., Carmel by the Sea offers a variety of perks for the pampered pooch including a romp along leash-free Carmel Beach, open season with treats and water throughout the town’s galleries and shops and 20+ pet-appreciative restaurants including Terry’s Lounge + Restaurant, Grasing’s, Forge in the Forest, Casanova Restaurant, La Balena, Anton & Michel and PortaBella restaurant.
For a peek at all things pooch, Terry’s Lounge rolls out a daily Yappy Hour from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. On show is a colorful parade of guests and locals with a showcase of canines in every conceivable category. For an A table, arrive early to snag a seat at the coveted alfresco patio complete with fireplace or the cozy library. Dogs aren’t the only animals who rule here, cats, parrots and the occasional iguana have also been known to make a debut.
