We’ve all heard of TOMS shoe drops that provide free shoes for those in need. Now an employee of the company with a heart and his wife have started a pet accessories line that gives back by donating a percentage of the sale of each product to animal shelters and rescue organizations.
Givebones, based in Los Angeles, lets pet lovers participate in the conscious consumerism movement that has captivated people around the world. The new pet accessories brand is dedicated to supporting animal shelters around the country with proceeds from the sales of its signature products, now available online at www.givebones.com.
Givebones debuted with the launch of its signature dog collar collection featuring six different colors: black, red, royal blue, hot pink, neon turquoise and neon orange. All collars are available in sizes small, medium and large for the retail price of $14.99. An accompanying Givebones wristband for dog owners is complimentary with purchase and/or available for friends and family for $4.99 for two, allowing animal lovers to show their support and help give their dog a voice.
Givebones donates 10 percent of all sales to local shelters, including the spcaLA in Los Angeles, the brand’s first partner and which celebrated its 135th anniversary last month. The brand plans to expand its shelter partnerships to other cities nationwide in coming months, including Dallas, New York, Houston, Chicago, Portland, Seattle, Minneapolis and more.
A donation of $25 can provide food and shelter for a suffering animal and $75 can provide a shelter pet with a full vet exam, vaccinations and a microchip via the spcaLA.
Tricia Andrews and her husband, who works for TOMS, were inspired to start Givebones after he noticed the amount of homeless dogs during a Giving Trip with TOMS in Central America. One dog in particular, who at first sight sadly lived up to his name, Bones, grabbed his attention. After Tricia read TOMS founder Blake Mycoskie’s book Start Something That Matters, an idea was born. (TOMS has given over two million pairs of new shoes to children in need since it began in 2006.)
“We have been so inspired by give back brands like TOMS Shoes who have propelled a mass movement in conscious consumerism and felt it was time for the pet industry to get involved,” said Andrews, pet parent to rescue mixed-breed Sadie. “Givebones is committed to helping shelters around the country, starting right here in Los Angeles, and making it easy for pet lovers to support the industry and save animals in need.”
“We are excited to be partnering with Givebones and are so appreciative of their dedication to supporting animal shelters around the country, ” said Madeline Bernstein, spcaLA President. “Donations mean so much to our organization and we love that Givebones is giving animal lovers an easy way to do their part.”
