For a Fido-friendly vacation that benefits more than just the mind and soul, take part in the 6th annual Canine Classic on Sept. 21, 2014, a charity hike/run for guests and their canine companions where 100% of the registration fees and/or pledge donations go to support the Humane Society of Western Montana. Taking place on the opulent grounds of The Resort at Paws Up, a 37,000 acre working cattle ranch resort set in picturesque Greenough, MT, you and your pooch are bound to have a vacation worth barking about.
Participants can choose between a two-mile fun walk, a five-mile run or a half marathon. Trails wind through the forests and have breathtaking views of the Blackfoot Valley. After the hike, you and your pup can kick back and enjoy a gourmet lunch (including local micro brewed beer), while participants who collected the most pledges are awarded special prizes.
Make a trip of it and come a night early to enjoy the annual Wine & Bitch Dinner and pet expo in the Saddle Club. A gourmet meal complete with fine wine will be served to the bipeds and yummy treats will be provided for four-legged friends. And new this year, Walter Salas-Humara’s band The Silos, named the “Best New American Band” by Rolling Stone, will play following both the the Wine & Bitch Dinner and the Canine Classic hike/run. Salas-Humara is not only a legendary musician, but also an accomplished painter. His colorful, happy and crazy WaltersDogs paitings will be on display for your viewing pleasure, and Salas-Humara will also be available for a commissioned painting of your own beloved pooch.
Paws Up is famed for pioneering the luxury glamping trend upon opening in 2005, and in addition to five tented camp accommodations, the resort boasts luxury abodes from 8-10 person Wilderness Estates to quaint Meadow Homes, ideal for families and couples.
